At 3,143 metres Mt Fansipan is Vietnam’s highest mountain. Although only 9 km from Sapa town, it takes at least three days to get to the peak and back. The top is accessible year-round to anybody, so long as they are in good shape. As there are no mountain huts on the way, tents and sleeping bags are provided. Our porters carry the equipment and food. This trip offers very basic, roughing it conditions! No ropes or technical climbing skills are needed, just endurance and plenty of energy. The terrain is rugged, wet and often cold so wet weather gear and appropriate shoes are a must. During the summer months of June to August it can also be very hot so you need to plan in advance for a variety of possible conditions. Climbing Mt Fansipan in Vietnam is for active adventure seekers who are up for a challenge!

Day 1: Hanoi – Sapa
This evening you will take the overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai near the Chinese border.
Day 2: Sapa
Upon arrival in Lao Cai , you will be met by your guide and they will accompany you on the 35km drive to Sapa. The morning will be free to walk around this former French hill station town. Later visit the market and walk up Ham Rong hill for some good panoramic views of Sapa town and the surrounding valleys.
Day 3: Sapa – First Camp (2,000 m)
You will embark on the first part of the ascent as you trek through terraced rice paddies and valleys. En route pass through the small H’mong village of Cat Cat nestled in the valley. Cross the Linh Ho river via a bamboo bridge and start your ascent. Once reaching an elevation of 2,000m you set up camp for the night.
Day 4: Trek to second camp (2,400m)
Today continue your ascent through rainforest as you climb approximately 400m before setting up second camp with the help of the porters. Spend a second night in the open.
Day 5: Trek to summit and return to second camp (2,400m)
After breakfast set out for summit, which will take the best part of the day. As you continue on pass through primary forest containing giant, centuries old pine trees and expanses of yellow bamboo. Your continuing trek will take you to an altitude of over 3,000m as you arrive at the roof of Vietnam: Fansipan Peak. Once at the summit you will have time to savor the best panorama in Vietnam.
Day 6: First camp – Sapa
Today it’s downhill just about all the way. Following breakfast begin your descent and reach Sapa by around lunchtime. From here you will return by road to Lao Cai for the overnight return train journey to Hanoi.
